GUEST BLOGGER: Youngsong Martin, Wildflower Linen - Go Green, Not Lean...

Simply Mumtaz Events, Inc. is very happy to welcome to our blog Youngsong Martin, Owner of Wildflower Linen as our first Guest Blogger!
Go Green, Not Lean….

Wildflower Linen

What comes to mind when people hear an event is “Going GREEN”? --- Recycle, reuse, reduce, lots of trees, browns, organic, simple, natural and the list goes on and on… But sometimes, I hear that people are wary of “Green Events” because although it’s a great way to save the environment, the design and details can take a back seat.

Don’t be afraid to have a “Green Event”. Going Green doesn’t mean you have to go lean.
Many industry experts and vendors have come up with creative ways to be “green” while still adding amazing design elements. There are so many resources now for clients to find more environmentally safe items; everything from soy-based candles to finding caterers who use only organic or locally grown produce. Our linen resources include a whole line of eco-friendly linens that are made of raw fibers and natural dyes. We love using these linens and matching them with vibrant colored napkins or florals to add a splash to the tabletop. Table rentals can be made out of recycled material but still look really fresh and untried. Florals, with their natural beauty, are always key.

Our feature in Today’s Bride Magazine highlight a choice of spring green and cocoa brown as the understated elements of the table, while letting a pop of fuchsia and pink from the florals become the focal point. An eco-friendly event can look just as creative and inspirational as any over-the-top lavished one while saving the environment at the same time. So next time, let’s add to the typical words that come to mind with “Going Green” to include fun, chic, colorful and trendy!

URGENT CALL: Senator Kerry's direct attack on the Meetings & Events Industry

Make your voice heard! This is a direct attack on our industry.

Our industry continues to be under fire, and we each need to take a more active role in ensuring that our local communities and elected officials are more educated on the true role and impact of our industry on the economy. This is a time of partnership and alliances!

Meeting Professionals International and the National Business Travel Association and their respective leaderships have been working behind the scenes with fellow industry associations to thoughtfully respond to many inaccurate assertions unfairly attached to our industry. Now, we need your help to reinforce these responses in your local communities and to reach out to your elected officials. Here's a list of links that you should sign up on and investigate further!!!

1) Write to government representatives TODAY! Please view the many tools and updates available on the MPI International Website @ http://www.meetingindustrycrisiscenter.org/. Here you will find your government representatives and sample letters that can be written. I urge you to write today!

2) Sign the Keep America Meeting petition http://www.keepamericameeting.org/

3) View the Convention Industry Council's (CIC) news release. Carry our industry's message to mainstream America. http://www.conventionindustry.org/documents/CIC_Members_Endorse_Guidelines_for_Meetings.pdf

4) National Business Travel Association - Action Alert http://capwiz.com/nbta/issues/alert/?alertid=12773376

We need to protect our jobs, businesses, and industry! Please comment if you have any questions.
