Back from Hiatus! First Catch Up Post! Treasures of Los Angeles

So yeah - shame on us for our complete lack of keeping our Blog up to date. We've got it scheduled to be back up and running! So, here's our first catch up blog post. It features one of our longest standing client's annual events - it's the Treasures of Los Angeles. It was held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites this past May.

This year's event was a bit more fun because we had to reinvent the wheel with a lesser budget, same program, and same venue. So, all we can say it thank goodness for lighting! We pushed the limits for our client's conservative taste and used more fun patterns in our lighting design.

In addition we were able to incorporate social media into the event for the first time... We used Eventstagram and used a dedicated hashtag to pull all of the tweets and posts with the hashtag.

Because we used the super large plasma screen it was tons of fun finding the best pics to serve as backdrops at various times of the program.
We have to give thanks to all of our team and strategic partners for their total commitment in making this event happen! It's always astonishing to us how many people really touch an event of this size - our best guess is 500! Just think about it - from planner to dishwasher to videographer to association staff to hotel valet, etc... THANK YOU!

Make Your Budget Count!

So, we just finished our 10th year in a row of producing one of our signature events in the Downtown Los Angeles area at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. We love reinventing this event every year. We obviously have a budget to create the event, but have to create something new this year to really give it a WOW factor. TOP PLANNER TIP: Make the money you spend count! This year we cut way down on the table decor (no frills and thrills!) and put the funds into the technical production line item! We had a 40ft+ LED screen in the center of the room as the backdrop! Since we could program it to do whatever we want, break it into several images, etc. it was absolutely the highlight of the event especially as we changed out the images throughout the event! Our one money maker shined bright! We also framed it with 2 additional 20ft wide screens and smaller vertical LED panels!
Here you can see Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa with a Downtown LA sunset image...

One of our event honorees - team members from the LA Galaxy - standing with an image of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Here we had to share... our client with Council President Herb Wesson Jr and Councilman Tom LaBonge with Honoree Hugh Hefner... Our client Carol Schatz was named the "Queen Bunny of Downtown Los Angeles" with Silver Bunny Ears!

Plus we have to give a shout out to the Good News Girls. They were fantastic to work with and look forward to working with them in the future. And, finally here's a part of the Mumtaz Team posing with honoree Hugh Hefner - A Playboy Extraordinaire!

USC-CMAA Conference & Annual Dinner!

We had a great time working with the USC Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America! It was held downtown at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel for their 18th Annual Megacities: Sustainable Energy & Green Energy Symposium. The day's conference closed with a Dinner featuring leaders across the private and public sectors.

The event started with all day sessions and panelists on topics such as school and campuses, transportation, healthcare, entertainment, infrastructure, and government and transportation.

The symposium dinner was held that night in the California Ballroom and included dinner and a panel discussion from industry leaders. It's always great when we can experiment with different decor ideas for our diverse panel of clients, and this event was a perfect example. To welcome attendees that only participated in the dinner event we had "construction" sign rotating - Welcome to USC CMAA 2012! That was just the beginning...

It was fantastic being able to incorporate a student into our main keynote panel presentation. This event is about the students and here is a pic with our panelists: George Hershman – VP & Division Manager of Swinerton Renewable Energy, Jason Hartke, VP, Advocacy and Public Policy from the U.S. Green Building CouncilDavid Jacot, PE, Business Portfolio Manager, Customer Energy Efficiency & Solar Division, Southern California EdisonRob Oglesby, Executive Director, California Energy Commission, Kameron Burk - USC Student, and it was moderated by Jonathan Powers, Federal Environmental Executive.
Now, because we are doing an event for a construction group... why not play it up... For our centerpieces, we used cinder blocks and placed yellow orchids and garnet ribbon - USC colors. Let's just say we had some heavy lifting to do! LOL...  Keeping with the construction theme, we also placed hazard signs and construction cones on the perimeter of the tables. It never hurts to have a little fun!

To close - we have to give major kudos to our main girl at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Yvonne Chang, CMP - You Rock! Thank you for always being fantastic at what you do and a great friend!

Treasures of Los Angeles - Purple Glitz celebrating Downtown's Revitalization

This April we had the opportunity to produce the Treasures of Los Angeles Awards Luncheon once again and we nick named it our Purple Glitz... In designing this event, our 9th year, we were concerned with inventing a new design concept that continued to brand the event as Downtown L.A.'s premier business organization and the Treasures event as the must attend civic event in Downtown L.A. of the year. Besides creating an event design concept based on the exciting developments and revitalization and it's newest "City Center" aka L.A. Live we wanted to keep the client's "purple" brand. We opened the program with L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti, L.A. City Controller Wendy Greuel and L.A. City Council President Pro Tempore Jan Perry performing a rendition of Downtown... It was fantastic! Our Title Sponsor - Farmers Field was showcased on our event backdrop as well as AEG President & CEO Tim Leiweke gave remarks on the continued revitalization of Downtown L.A. and Farmers Field. Special Thanks go out to our team members for helping us make this event a smashing success! We couldn't do what we do without our vendors and trusted relationships. Here's to 9 down and looking forward to next year's 10th!

2008 Treasures of Los Angeles

The day before I left for my trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the back to back conferences we produced the 2008 14th Annual Treasures of Los Angeles event! It was tons of fun and we all had the butterflies in our stomachs... but, it couldn't have run better. 10 honorees, 1 1/2 hours with lunch and formal presentations! We had a few on the moment calls when the Mayor arrived late, but it worked out for the best. We had so many secret stage arrivals and departures that the whole backstage program was another script on to its own! But, it was a sunshine arrival!

We also were able to get a few photos with some of our honorees... check it out! Magic Johnson, Bob Barker, Cesar Millan (Dog Whisperer), and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Keith Barry (Silverlake Conservatory of Music).

Thanks to all of team members that help make this event happen! It was a load of hours, thought, and heart that went into this event. We loaded in 4am the morning before and didn't have everyone out til the day around 8pm! That's almost 48 hrs in just on-site production! THANK YOU!
