Our visit at Community Recycling & Resource Recovery Inc.

So, today was an amazing day! Tons of work to get done, but I had the opportunity to visit what I learned is one of California's largest fully permitted composting facilities. My appointment was all about how we bring Composting to the City of Los Angeles on a much larger scale where it eventually becomes common place.

In striving for creating Zero Waste events we are looking to find ways to bring composting to Special Events / Meetings / Conventions. Good news is... it was a very successful meeting. Please stay tuned as we continue to work on bringing this fantastic service to our industry.

Before I get there... here's a basic definition of Composting - It's the natural decomposition of organic materials. Composting transforms your food waste, liquid organic waste, and excess products into a high quality, nutritious soil amendment that is used by farmers to improve soil fertility and to increase crop yields.

A few photos from today's adventure... The first photo is one of two different piles.. the first bigger one is primarily from wood. This facility also creates green energy - Biomass. The product is waste from local construction sites. The smaller pile is compost... this is the product that will make its way to the composting fields.
Green waste from local "green" bins - garden, lawns, grass, tree trimmings, etc.
Below are two photos of "bails" that have been through the "big machine" that sorts household trash. You can see on the right more cloth type items, then like clear vinyl / plastic... The next photo you can see is plastic bottles, colored and clear.

Then, of course ME. Could this be any worse of a photo! But, I have to show it. It was such a great tour...felt like I was on the Green Channel. I think every kid in high school should go through a recycling / recovery to see where our trash goes, where it ends up and what it can be...

Hey everybody! I hope you all are doing well. We've been having gorgeous weather here in Southern California. And, yesterday was no exception. A bit on the hot side, BUT here are some fun photos of my digital of the Golf Tournament we managed yesterday. I have to say I love the ShotGun start!

So here's general registration...

Simply Mumtaz Wins 3 ISES LA SEA Awards!

Simply Mumtaz wins big! We are so proud to announce that we recently won 3 awards at the ISES LA Fundraiser & Installation event on July 16th at the Park Plaza. Our Jr. Event Coordinator, Gabriela Islas took the stage to receive two of the three awards! Look at the ear to ear smile! Needless to say, we've had some fun with this pic here in the office. Karli Tanner, CMP also went up to the stage to receive our Best Wedding award. The second photo below is a pretty cool shot of the event! Photos taken by Ulrika Graaf.

The first award we won was the Best Non-Profit Event 2007 for the USGBCLA's 3rd Annual Green Gala! Photo courtesy of Michael Norwood Photography.

The second event we won was the Best Wedding 2007 for the Wedding of Robin & David at the Ebell.

The coolest and third award we won was for the Best Allied Team Event 2007 for the 13th Annual Treasures of Los Angeles. We'd like to give shout outs to our Allied Team members for this - J&M Entertainment, Michael Norwood Photography, Dreamworld Backdrops, and 100candles.com.

Joella in Meetings & Conventions Magazine - May 2008

So, how did we not see this! How exciting! Thanks Lisa Grimaldi for featuring ISES as it commits itself to Green. It's really exiciting. Green is truly the new black.

I didn't even hear about this until my Mom said that one of her friend's daughters who lives in Tampa saw me in the mag. She's a fellow planner too! Isn't that cool - it really is a small world.

Simply Mumtaz at Takami / Elevate - One of Downtown L.A's New & Hippest Joints!

Simply Mumtaz Events just recently produced a networking Reception for one of our Downtown clients at Takami / Elevate Lounge! Check out these photos. The venue is super cool. There is plenty of space to hold a super cool reception with an amazing view of the Downtown L.A. skyline. Great food and great people! It's a hidden Treasure, don't get discouraged finding parking, there is valet after 5pm and don't worr about the shady elevator ride up... it's worth the WOW moment once you get to the penthouse!
